Student Council Winners
All the results are in!
-Freshmen (Lize)-

In what turned out to be somewhat of a landslide, Lize claimed 74% of the vote! Her campaign style of quiet confidence and boisterous posters paid off. Everyone is counting on Lize to contribute with her "ingenuity, creativity, organization, and lots of big words."
Congratulations to Lize and all the other freshman candidates!
Interesting fact about Lize:
Lize has a reputation at OBA for changing the spelling of her name each year. As she gets older, the phonetically correct spellings become less abundant. Although it is pronounced "Lizzy", she has run out of all the spellings that actually sound out correctly.
Lizy, Lizzee, Lizzy, or Lize, you won the freshman vote. Welcome to Student Council!

-Sophomores (Jenny)-
As the ballots were tallied, it became clear that this was going to be a two person race. Ben and Jenny were neck and neck from start to finish. It came down to a few critical swing votes. Jenny campaigned heavily and seemed to target the young vote. Ben, with comments like, "How many posters do I have to make?", relied on his stellar reputation to carry him through. In the end, Jenny's last minute campaigning and cute slogans put her on top.
Great job to all of you, sophomores!
Interesting fact about Jenny, our new sophomore representative:
Jenny campaigned hard among the younger grades. One of her seven qualities that she stressed during her campaign was that "she liked animals." This may have been the quality that just pushed her over the edge.

-Juniors (Jake & Becky)-

The Junior and Senior class each have two representatives in Student Council. The top two vote getters are reviewed and approved by the staff and then appointed as Student Council members.
This year, the first place student was clearly decided. Early in the race, it was clear that Jake's intense 3x5 card campaign was carrying him to the top. The ingenuity and creativity that he showed through his campaign was effectively a viral underground campaign. Or maybe it was just that everyone knows of Jake's servant's heart and track record as a great Student Council representative....
The race for second place was tight. In what came close to a tie for second, Becki pulled out a win. This win is particularly impressive considering that the ballot listed her as Rebecca and all her campaigning was done under the name Becki. Even this hurdle couldn't stop the students from putting their girl into office!
Congrats to all of you Juniors! It was a great race!
Interesting facts about the winners:
Jake set the world record for the slowest full-sprint mile time of 72:36. He's in the Guinness Book. Look it up.
Becki is 6'5", 243lb and plays linebacker for the Patriots on weekends. The first and only girl in the NFL. She's number 98.

-Seniors (Brianna & Mike)-
With promises like "apples for all!" (the fruit, not the computer), and "no school on Saturdays!", the senior class had no stand out candidate. In the closest race of all, the top two ended up tied with 20% of the vote. Every candidate in this race had a real chance of winning with the 3rd and 4th place candidates receiving 18% and 16% of the vote.
Brianna (make sure you say it right), excited about running had a secret underground campaign among the younger grades. Little known to her classmates, she used family connections to pull herself to the top.
Mike, an incumbent, convinced enough people that the position was critical to his resume. There was probably some sympathy vote there.
Interesting facts about the winners:
Brianna, the only female winner whose name does not end in a "y" sound, has three younger brothers. It's been rumored that her youngest brother, 6, does most of her homework for her.
Mike, although he claims to know less than his parents about computers, is suspected of being the true inventor of the iPhone.
